Last night Joe and I went to Club Zoo
in Pittsburgh to see Reel Big Fish. Club Zoo, if you are curious, was previously
(in a cooler past life) Metropol. It's an "under 21 club", and after two concerts there, I am convinced.
The place just draws teenage kids. I mean, you would think RBF would draw people closer to my age,
what with being an older ska band that hasn't seemed to find a real foot hold with todays youth. WRONG.
Joe and I figured it out though. Since both shows were mid-week events, the only people that could attend were
teenage kids. Everyone else is now out of college and has a "real" job, meaning no late nights.
Since neither Joe or I has a real job, this didn't slow our roll one iota.
At any rate.. Reel Big Fish played a great set. They strutted on stage to the "Superman" theme song (from the
movies), which was hysterical. They managed to play every song you could want to hear them play live, excluding
a cover of "Hungry Like the Wolf" or "Skatanic". It pleased me to no end that they didn't focus heavily on the
new album (which is mediocre at best,
IMHO) or that flaming piece of whale shit "Cheer Up!". Which isn't to say
that they didn't shamelessly promote "We're Not Happy Until You're Not..", but would you expect anything else
from a band that's break out song was a tongue in cheek nod to getting signed on a real label?
There is nothing to be said for either of the opening acts, because we didn't bother seeing them. In fact,
we didn't even bother leaving Johnstown until
after the show started.
Predictably, the encore set included "She Has A Girlfriend Now" and "Sell Out". All in all, well worth the 17 bucks,
little kids and all.
In other news, I've begun the modification on my Cubicle. I will be posting images as work progresses in the
Cubicle Madness gallery (click photos on the left), as well as flickr.
The way the cube farm is set up here at work is sort of screwy. To allow for the inward swinging door, the front
cubicles are located fairly far from the third wall. This results in a much larger cubicle, true. But it also
means that I get hosed by the fact that anyone strolling by can't help but see exactly what I am working on.
The gent across from me (Joe, but not the previously mentioned Joe), gets the luxury of an open door to shield him
from prying eyes. Discontent and ever wanting to "improve" things, I got the go ahead for my remodeling project.
First act?
Extend the Cubicle Wall
The list of improved additions is:
- Inflatable Palm Trees (1 or 2)
- Raffia Skirting for the desk and cubicle walls
- Table Top Tiki Bar(will sit on a large unused portion of my desk with ease)
- A childrens pool filled with sand! (Dave'sidea, and it's even been cleared by my boss!)
- And finally......A Hammock!!!!!
The only concern is where I am going to put all the people when my tropical paradise cubicle becomes the "hang out" for the office... :)
