AKA Random Drunken Injuries for those who don't know. Everyone who has ever drank heavily has had at least one of these RDI's in their lifetime. I, as being an avid drinker, have had many. Read on for some examples.
Two of my worst RDI's have come at PSU where binge drinking is like sleeping, everyone does it about once a day.
The first of my RDI's occured in my dorm room freshman year. I had just had the largest drinking night of my life and I decided to stumble back home after the fact. I made it to my room by the grace of god but the ladder to the top bunk of my bunkbed had other ideas. At the pinnacle of the ladder my drunken ass leans backwards for no appearant reason. Next thing I remember is laying on the floor with a knot the size of a golfball on my head a ladder on my back and a pile of spew all over the floor. I realized that I could not stand. I crawled to my roomates bed (who just happened to be on vacation in the bahamas) and layed there for the next 3 days living off of the Mike and Ikes in the candy dish that I could reach and the water from the fridge at the foot of the bead. That is a category 1 RDI which I will explain later.
The second occurred after drinking most of a bottle of vodka. I blacked out and appearantly left the party I was attending in downtown State College. I came to in the middle of the woods walking along some back road a good mile or so from my origional destination. The grass looked real comfy so I slumped on to some guys front yard for about an hour. I was woken up by a passing car and sprinted and fast as I could home in a drunken stupor. I awoke the next day with my ankle the size of a softball and cuts all over my legs. So I am assuming I ran about a mile on that ankle and didn't even feel it the night before. This falls into the category 2 RDI.
Since I am probably the king of RDI's I have noticed that there are three distinct categories to the RDI phenomenon.
Category 1: You feel the pain of an RDI while drunk. These are the more extreme of the RDI's. Things like broken bones, concussions (like mine previous), stab wounds, gunshot wounds, and massive internal bleeding are common for this category. They happen rarely in the drinkers lifetime but are the most memorable.
Category 2: You feel the pain of an RDI the morning after the drinking but not during the drunkenness. These consist of scrapes, cuts, sprains, bruises, and sometimes even open wounds. These occur much more frequently that the category 1 RDI's. I currently have about 2 of these healing on my body.
Category 3: You don't feel any pain during the drinking or the morning after but you randomly find the injury in the shower or at some point in time. The average reaction to this injury is, "where the fuck did this come from." These consist of minor bruises scrapes and cuts.
So what are some of your most memorable RDI's. Post them in the comments.
