This is the personal website of Christian Sullivan
Originally started as Hanzo.tk, it was nothing more than a cheesy redirect to a friends server. Hanzo.tk was really just sort of a vanity project, using really bad flash for pretty much everything.
I moved to New Zealand for a while, and before leaving I hastily added a flat thread message board, with the intent that it would be used for communication between myself and friends. It didn't really see any use.
Around the same time, the friend who hosted Hanzo.tk implemented basically the same system on his site, Davekaufman.net, and it became ridiculously popular in our social microcosm.
As his site grew, the message board disappeared, replaced by the Content Management System, PHPNuke. The ability for people to author and publish "Stories" was a smash hit. Hanzo.tk sat largely unused, my focus was on DaveKaufman.net. It was largely focused around humorous stories, crude jokes, and inside gags.
This incarnation of DaveKaufman.net was a flash in the pan however, and the owner made a decision to take the site in a different direction. The old content was removed, leaving us without a home for our tawdry tales. Inspired, I decided to create my own PHPNuke site, a place where these funny stories could live, without editorial direction or fear of offense.
But it needed a name. Dave Kaufman (owner of DaveKaufman.net) came to the rescue. Freezer Pants. (for information on this, see the FAQ).
Freezerpants.com was born, and continued with the funny stories. Many of the humor articles survived the purge, and were migrated to this site. In fact, if you look through the early archives, you can see a great many of them.
As the humor contributions dwindled, I realized that the interest was gone, but I still wanted a public site, a dumping ground. Without really grasping it, I wanted a "Blog".
I moved away from PHPNuke, opting to instead write my own CMS/Blog system in PHP. This eventually morphed into an (unsuccessful) attempt to create a publicly available version of the site, using a site engine called FREON.
Code repositories were made, TODO lists crafted, project milestones, blah blah blah. Like so many OSS projects, it died on the vine before seeing any real progress.
I won't write it off as a complete waste though, the skills I learned have helped my understanding of PHP, Javascript, CSS and MySQL tremendously.
But it was too big, too ambitious. I yearned for the simpler age of simply updating. I didn't have the time or focus to code the engine, and as a result many features were left broken or completely unimplemented.
So I decided to move back to an "Off-the-shelf" system. Which is when I found logahead. It's light, flexible, and 90% complete. Perfect for someone who wants a system that "just works", but still enjoys tinkering under the hood.
Within 24 hours of installing it, I migrated my old database to the new schema, write some custom widgets, and made a creative hack to a default theme.
So what is the focus of freezerpants.com these days? Well, I suppose it's back to a vanity site. I don't know that I would consider it a "blog", I don't update nearly often enough. I guess it's just a place to post little snippets of news from my life, host links to my friends, and continue to hack away on bits of PHP here and there.
